Past Programmes


Earth Day 2009:

Bio-Park and Urban Forestry projects have been continuing along with support from various organizations and agencies. As part of the Earth Day celebration, Eco-Watch along with Intel took up Iblur lake cleaning and tree planting activity. The one-day event was attended by al section of society including govt. and private bodies.

World Environment Day:

To observe World Environment Day and as part of the Green Karnataka project, a massive tree planting drive was organized over a period of one week at various bio-parks and eco-parks. SAP Labs, Oracle, Citizen Watches and others came forward to support this programme.

Kasavanahalli Lake Revival Programme

Another important programme was the revival of Kasavanahalli Lake off Sarjapur Road. Intel came forward to support this initiative and took making of nests and hanging them to improve the bird population and diversity in & around this lake.


In the third year of this project, Eco-Watch has undertaken further enrichment of the project by planting 1,200 saplings in various blocks of the project site. More than 50 additional species have been planted in various blocks of the project site.

Immadihalli Eco-School Project:

The SAP Labs India Pvt Ltd., have supported the project of making a govt. school into eco-friendly and bring about changes among the students right from that age. Rainwater Harvesting, Solar lighting, Greening & Solid Waste Management are the key focus of this project. Eco-Watch is implementing this project and will be completed by June/July 2010.

Two-Day Seminar cum Workshop on Environment & Development:

The two day state level seminar cum workshop was organized at BVB College, Hubli. Various aspects such as environmental management, regional development, agriculture, horticulture, sustainable livelihoods, tourism, etc., we discussed. Papers were presented and panel discussions were held with experts to prepaqre an action plan to propose to the govt. Other activities such as tree planting by Mahindra & Mahindra, youth volunteers and other groups have also taken place.

Tropical Fruit Tree species Conservation:

Eco-Watch also is involved in the this project with the IIHR and UNDP for protecting and popularizing the select tropical fruit tree species in the Western Ghats region.

2009 - 2010

Feb 2009 Deutsche Bank in partnership with Ecowatch conducted an awareness campaign, aptly named “ We can do our bit”. This initiative was supported by other NGOs, schools, Pollution control board, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL) and the Central Govt Water board. The awareness campaign included a cycle rally from the Army Public school to Ulsoor lake and an exhibition on types of pollution affecting our eco-systems. The campaign also showcased the benefits of using solar powered equipments, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water.
Mar 2009 Eco-watch undertakes the annual land preparation activity at its Dodballapur and Hoskote sites from March through May. Land preparation during summer involves regular watering to keep the soil moist, preventing forest fires. VTU helps eco-watch in the regular monitoring of plants these sites.
April 2009 To observe ‘Earth Day’ Intel volunteers this year partnered with Eco-watch in the conservation and restoration of Iblur Lake.
May 2009 Eco-watch conducted a workshop and awareness campaign on water conservation for residents of Belgaum. The Karnataka Urban Water supply and Drainage Board provided immense support for the success of this event.
June 2009 The World Environment Day - June 5th was observed by CSR groups of SAP Labs, Oracle and Citizen watches. SAP undertook a tree plantation drive at Hoskote. Oracle and Citizen watches took to lake conservation of Kasavanahalli and Avalahalli lakes respectively
July 2009 Volunteers at Intel in addition to tree planting to observe the “World Environment Day” undertook the clean-up of Kasavanahalli Lake. In order to attract birds to the lake, volunteers made bird-nests and hung them around the lake.
Aug 2009 VTU Genebank
  Mindtree as a part of its decennial celebrations pledged to plant 8000 saplings. This campaign was aptly called – “One tree per mind“. Eco-watch supported this initiative by providing saplings and helped in planting at the ARSPT grounds at Dodballapur.
Sep 2009 Eco-watch assisted the JSS Group of Institutions in their efforts to conserve the Kelageri Lake. Eco-watch helped students understand the drawbacks of lack of vegetation around the lake. The campaign made students aware of issues like – erosion of top soil, silting of lake beds, improving the water holding capacity of lakes and strengthening of catchments areas.
Oct 2009 Motorola observed the ‘Global day of Service’ with the restoration efforts of Kasavanahalli lake.

Nov 2009 Hubli seminar
  Eco-watch along with the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research conducted a workshop cum training program on Tropical fruit trees. The workshop focused on the importance and conservation of trees like – Garcinia, Mango and Citrus trees
